(Messier) Hemond, of Lewiston, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, at Central Maine Medical Center with his family by his side. Bob was born in Lewiston, son of Romeo and Grace (St. Onge) Hemond. He was educated in local schools. Bob was a military veteran who served his country in the National Guard at Fort Dix, N.J., as a medic. He was employed by Gould & Scammon Co. as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 106 and the Lewiston Seniors Pinochle Group. His favorite enjoyments were traveling, playing cards, candy, camping and home projects. He is survived by his wife, Audrey of 56 years; his daughter, Doris Hemond-Minkowsky with husband, David, of Lewiston; his two sons, Paul Hemond with wife, Denise, of Hampton Falls, N.H., and Larry Hemond with wife, Sue, of Bowdoinham; six grandchildren, Sam, Josh, Savannah, Tiffany, Troy and Laura; one great-granddaughter, Lavinia; his sister, Jeanne Varney of Auburn; a brother, Ronald Hemond with wife, Sharon, of Auburn; niece, Cheryl Peterson; and nephew, Scott Varney. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Larry (Unc) Varney. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the CMMC ICU staff for the care given to Robert and his family. Mr. Hemond was a hard-working man, husband, father, and grandfather who was loved by his family and friends.
