      Obituaries



      St. Albans – Mrs. Helena A. Hemond, 96, died October 5, 2011, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

      She was born on July 29, 1915, in Pike River, Quebec.

      On October 31, 1938, she married Philip A. Hemond in St. Albans and eventually made their home on Little County road in St. Albans Bay. Helena was a seamstress by trade, taking great pride in her sewing and knitting creations. She and Phil loved playing cards with friends and relatives, attending their garden, playing with their grandchildren in the deep snow and riding bikes. After Phil's passing, Helena continued to reside in their home they built together. Helena filled up her days with maintain her home, gardening, sewing, driving herself to church and playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

      Friends and family will always remember her happiness and kind spirit. Helena's favorite saying was "I love everyone" and her smile always showed that.

      Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gerard and Donna of Travares, FL; son-in-law, James Douglas of Swanton; sister, Regina Bushey of Edgefield, SC; sister-in-law, Marian Johnson of St. Albans and brother-in-law, Paul Blais of Burlington. Helena is also survived by her grandsons and their wives, Michael & Karen Douglas, Scott & Rose Hemond, Gregory & Kim Douglas, Brian & Michelle Douglas, Dwight & Tami Hemond and her only granddaughter, Lynn Douglas; ten great-grandchildren that when she saw or heard them, an immediate huge smile would appear on her face and many nieces and nephews that all has a special part in her life.

      Helena was predeceased by her beloved husband and partner in life, Philip, and as of last October her loving and only daughter, Ruth Douglas; her sisters, Leola and Lucille and her brother Art.


      Funeral services will be announced at a future date when all of her family can get home. A
