Alice Taylor (nee Emonds), of Upper Deerfield Township was born in New Egypt on January 22, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Louis A. and Margaret (Miles) Emonds. She lived most of her life in the Bridgeton and Elmer area and died at SJ Health Care - Elmer on Monday morning February 4, 2013 at the age of 94. She was a graduate of Bridgeton High School, class of 1936 and also graduated from Glassboro State Teachers College. Alice was a member of the Berean Baptist Temple where she served as chairperson of the Missions Committee and as a substitute Sunday school teacher. She was a teacher in the Upper Deerfield school system for 24 years. She also taught the high school equivalency program for 19 years and retired in 1982. She was active in a number of organizations; a member of the NEA, the NJEA, the Second Fifties, the Senior Class and the Bridgeton Civic Club. She also volunteered at Bridgeton Hospital and was a member of the Country Garden Club and the Dallas Lore Sharp Nature Club. She served as district leader of the Cumberland County Retired Educators Association and program and trip coordinator for the Shiloh Senior Citizens. In addition, she was a member of the DAR. Alice enjoyed traveling and had visited every state in the United States, the provinces of Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, the Holy Lands, Kenya, Egypt, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand and several countries in Europe. She also visited Brazil, Paraguay and Columbia in South America. One of her favorite travel destinations was Maine where she knew most of the state well. Alice loved her family and enjoyed having a part in their activities. She was interested in all they did. She enjoyed her many friends. She was true to her word and made you feel you were important. In addition, she loved flowers and enjoyed gardening, needlework, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She left her family a legacy of wonderful memories. Predeceased in 1997 by her husband, Harry Taylor, she is survived by one daughter, Marcia Taylor, at home, two sons, Harry E. Taylor (Diana) of FL and Dr. R. William Taylor (Eileen) of Pittsgrove, four grandchildren, Lisa Ann (husband, Leon Square), R. William Jr. (wife, Anastasia), Jessica (husband, Todd Keech) and Christopher (wife, Kate) and three great grandchildren, Ryan and Chloe Taylor and Charlotte Keech. She is also survived by a brother, Joseph Emonds of FL and two sisters, Louise Mancus of Idaho and Harriet Slavoff of Elmer and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Emonds, a sister, Dorothy Hannah and two infant brothers, William and Charles Emonds. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Berean Baptist Temple, Vine and Fayette Sts., Bridgeton on Saturday morning February 9th at 11 o'clock where friends will be received from 10 until 11. Rev. Kenneth Scovell and Rev. David Bailey will officiate. The interment will be private for the immediate family at the Daretown Presbyterian Cemetery.
