DODGE CITY- Shirley M. Soucy, 78, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at her home in Dodge City. She was born May 9, 1932 at
Dodge City, the daughter of F. Herschel and Laura Jane Smith Holland. She was raised in Dodge City and lived in Topeka most of
her adult life, returning to Dodge City in 2003. She began working for Southwestern Bell as an operator and advanced to a Field
Representative and Supervisor and after 31 years, retired on December 31, 1983. She was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church, Dodge City, Presbyterian Women PEO, Past President and active member of the Republican Women, Deputy of Boot Hill
Bells, Salvation Army Volunteer, GI Forum, Eastern Star, Red Hat Ladies, VFW Auxiliary, Women's Chamber, United Way of
Dodge City Volunteer, Meal on Wheels, Depot Theater Volunteer, RSVP Volunteer, Senior Friends. She was a KU Alumni Member
and Jayhawk fan and a bridge club member. She worked for Governor Bill Graves Campaign. She worked tirelessly for and was
passionate about all aspects of Kansas State Republican Party politics. On August 3, 1973, she married George Soucy at Topeka.
He preceded her in death on November 24, 1998. Survivors include: 3 nephews, Mark Holland and wife Janis, San Diego,
California, Kim Holland and wife Becky, Dodge City and Dale Blanchett, Enid, Oklahoma; 2 nieces, Debbie Lack and husband
Bruce, Enid, Oklahoma and Jeanette Holland, Wichita; a step-daughter, Kathy Ogle and husband Bill, Topeka; 4 grandchildren,
Stephanie Sullinger, Gardner, Kansas, Michael Ross, Overland Park, Alissa Emme, Raymore, Missouri and Jeffrey Ross, Topeka;
3 great grandchildren; and several great nephews and nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother,
Ronald Holland, a sister, Wanda Blanchett, a niece, Marsha Bartley and a step-son, Michael Soucy. Memorial service will be 10:00
a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Rev. Regina Maas presiding. There will be
no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Burkhart-
Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Inturnment will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City. The family suggests memorials to the
Ford County Humane Society in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
